The client was charged with possession of a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking offense in the federal court in Hammond, Indiana. The client pleaded guilty to drug trafficking, but contested the firearm charge at trial. Patrick Blegen tried the case, and the jury was hung. The government subsequently dismissed the firearm charges, preventing the addition of a mandatory five year term to the narcotics sentence.
